Dorpers

The Dorper sheep, developed in 1950 by crossing Dorset Horn rams with Blackhead Persian ewes, is a remarkably hardy breed capable of thriving on minimal resources. Known for their adaptability, they consume whatever forage is available, making them highly resilient. South Africa is home to two distinct types of Dorper sheep: the Black-headed Dorper and the White-headed Dorper.
Unlike most sheep breeds, Dorpers are polyoestrus, meaning they can produce offspring three times in two years, compared to the annual reproduction cycle of other breeds, typically during late winter or early spring. Renowned for their exceptional maternal instincts, Dorpers often give birth to twins and, when in good condition, rear them effortlessly. Although triplets can occur, the third lamb may face challenges due to the ewe’s limited number of teats.
Our Dorper sheep, sourced directly from South Africa to guarantee premium genetics, are celebrated for their resilience and adaptability. These versatile animals are perfectly suited to Kenya’s diverse climate, making them a valuable addition to local farming ventures.
